Located in the heart of the Peak District, Chatsworth is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and one of the true treasure houses of Britain. Set in Capability Brown’s extensive landscaped parkland on the banks of the River Derwent, Chatsworth house is known as the ‘Palace of the Peaks,’ named so for its beautiful Baroque architecture, fascinating history and displays and treasures from one of Europe’s most significant art collections. Visitors can also explore the 105 acre landscape garden and its famous waterworks, including the 300 year old Cascade and the gravity-fed Emperor fountain. Younger visitors and families particularly enjoy the working farmyard, with its wide variety of animals and their young, and the spectacular woodland adventure playground. The Chatsworth farm shop, located in the village of Pilsley, has been named as Britain’s best farm shop 2011 by FARMA. |
