London
is one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the world,
with something new to discover every time you visit. From
the British Airways London Eye to St Paul’s Cathedral,
nowhere else in the world has this unique combination of
the traditional and contemporary. London may be the capital
of the UK, but it is also a truly unique world city, with
nearly every global culture represented here. Visitors can
get off the beaten track to explore the character and flavour
of the many different neighbourhoods. Discover an incredible
range of attractions: world-class sights, celebrated theatre,
unrivalled shopping, restaurants and entertainment to suit
every taste and budget, as well as a wealth of green spaces
to enjoy.
London has some of the most ambitious environmental and climate
change targets in the world. As part of this the London Development
Agency, responsible for tourism development in the capital,
has recently launched the awards scheme, Green Tourism for
London.
This new scheme, which is based on the green tourism business
scheme, is targeted at hotels, guest houses, attractions
and event venues. The awards, which are only made after a
visit from an independent assessor, recognise traditional
energy and resource management, as well as businesses that
are actively promoting public transport, local cultural activities
and London’s open spaces. The businesses can dispay
a bronze, silver or gold award depending on their achievements.
