Sustainable Tourism Assessor (Green Tourism Business Scheme)
Company: Green Business UK Ltd
Location: Based part time in Perth and part time doing assessments throughout the UK and possibly Ireland and Europe.
Salary: £18,000 - £19,500 dependent on experience - 40 hrs / week

We are looking to recruit a sustainable tourism assessor to contribute to the technical team of a small but passionate company leading in the field of Sustainable Tourism. With an international reputation and experience of working in New Zealand, Canada and Sweden there is growing interest from the UK and overseas in the Green Tourism programme and we need dedicated and committed technical personnel to help us with this expansion.

This post is for someone with an appropriate qualification or experience of auditing against recognised standards. A personal commitment to the environment and good communication skills are essential. Key to the role is undertaking site assessments efficiently, providing appropriate and helpful advice to businesses, identifying significant environmental aspects and making recommendations on measures to reduce environmental impact and highlight improvements and opportunities.

The position involves planning, booking and visiting businesses to undertake site assessments and grading reports within a set timescale and to established standards. The assessor will be provided with all the equipment needed to carry out assessments and will be required to make all arrangements such as booking public transport and / or hire car and overnight accommodation. Expenses for travel and accommodation for all assessment work will be covered by the company. Other responsibilities require working within the technical team, contributing to scheme & criteria development

Although the company is based in Perth there is some flexibility in where our assessors are located and we would consider applications from outside Scotland based on the applicant being able to meet the following requirements. During the probationary period (4 months) you will be mainly based in the Perth office undertaking training and shadowed assessments. After the training is completed independent assessments will be undertaken throughout the UK and Ireland approximately once every two weeks. In-between trips the assessors are based in Perth with one day during that week when they can work from home. Expenses for travel and accommodation relating to travelling from your home to the Perth office will not be covered.

Essential:
• A personal commitment to and good knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues and enthusiasm for the subject
• Good communication skills, especially verbal skills and be able to explain technical issues to non-technical people
• A full driving license and be prepared to travel away from home for a week at a time, occasionally longer and sometimes weekend work

Desirable:
• An environmentally related degree
• Experience in auditing against recognised standards (environmental, sustainability or quality)
• Good practical knowledge of energy efficiency, waste management and environmental good practise
• Good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
• An interest in and knowledge of the hospitality industry
