Most
of the energy we use comes from burning fossil fuels
whether on-site in heating systems or indirectly by
using electricity generated at distant power stations.
Either way burning fossil fuels creates carbon dioxide
and other gasses, which are the main contributors to
global warming. Most of us could use less energy through
a combination of behavioral changes and the use of
efficient equipment. The energy section assesses a
wide range of energy efficiency measures as well as
the use of renewable technologies. Examples of the
energy assessment criteria covered include:
• Energy efficient appliances
• Low energy lighting and controls
• Efficient heating, cooling and hot water systems
• Insulation and ventilation
• Low embodied energy building
• Renewable energy and district heating |
