OUTER HEBRIDES
GREEN TOURISM BUSINESS SCHEME
Standing majestically at the northwest edge of Europe, this 150 mile-long island chain of beaches, culture, wildlife and adventure is a haven for outdoor activities, and a great place to unwind.

The Outer Hebrides are protected and recognised internationally for their environmental importance. The hills and moors are filled with native wildlife in their natural setting, far removed from industrialisation. You could spend a lifetime studying the bird life alone and nowhere else will you find such diversity of landscapes and species, arts, crafts and music. Fresh water and sea lochs unsurpassable in their beauty and abundance provide a great resource for fishermen. Traditional music and crafts live on in a lively and modern culture, which is civilised in the true sense of the word. Get even closer to nature with a boat trip to spot whales, dolphins, seals or puffins or a guided walk to mix with otters, buzzards or deer. And for those who like an adrenalin rush, expert or not, try out our surfing, climbing, diving or power boating.

Come home with a new hobby! Here in the Outer Hebrides we have:-
• The highest sea cliffs in Britain
• Over a million sea birds on St. Kilda alone
• Europe’s most consistent surf
• Over 6000 lochs with wild fish
• Five gold courses shaped the way nature always intended
• The heartland of the Gaelic culture
• Hundreds of square miles of unspoilt natural habitat and a thriving wildlife population.

Nowhere is the environment more accessible where it is possible to come across a Golden Eagle and common to spot an Otter. The Great Outdoors could have been coined to describe the Outer Hebrides. You can mountain bike and roam wherever the spirit takes you and you can kayak to explore the endless coastline. We have sufficient acreage of sheltered water for the lovers of water sports, with variety and clear clean water making diving a special experience.

If walking is your thing then the islands have a huge variety of walks to offer on road, track, moor, beach, cliffs, riverside and mountain.

Our culture is totally unique. The Gaelic language is still widely spoken and you will find the famous Hebridean welcome whenever you choose to spend time here. We invite you to come and be among friends – FAILTE !
